The Z-NET Uralla goal is to get our Shire to 100% renewable energy for home and business use. A key pathway is through the installation of rooftop solar and solar hot water, both actions that have a short payback period of 6-7 years.
Z-NET Uralla recommend getting a number of quotes keeping in mind the quality of the equipment and after-sales service. It is also important to ensure that measures to reduce your power usage have been implemented eg proper insulation in your ceiling. If people would like some help to run the numbers for their home/business, they can contact the Z-NET Uralla Team (coordinator(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)zneturalla.org.au).
Quarterly installation of solar in Uralla Shire
As part of ZNET-Uralla’s M&E metrics we have been tracking the amount of solar that has been installed across the shire. This is both business and home. We have had a significant up take in our shire.
At the end of 2015 our shire had installed 1,616 kw of panels. At the end of October 2021 we now have 5,328 kw of panels installed. These are creating around an extra 7,778,340 kwh of renewable energy.
Many of our businesses now have solar panels to assist in reducing their costs. This includes cafes, real estate offices, garages, schools, council buildings and in 2019 CSIRO installed a 100 kw system. In March 2020 the Bowling Club has also installed a 99.4 kw system.
