The purpose of Zero Net Energy Town is to create Australia’s first town which satisfies all of its own energy needs from renewable energy sources in a way which is competitive with its current system of energy (in terms of price, quality, reliability, and security of supply).

Z-NET Uralla is a not for profit community organisation operating as part of the Uralla Neighbourhood Centre Inc. We are seeking an enthusiastic and well organised Coordinator to provide support for Z-NET Uralla to begin to implement our Action Plan from the Z-NET Blueprint (http://z-net.org.au/blueprint/), and to support enquiries and engagement from other regions and towns to build a wider community of action.

Z-NET Uralla has developed an Operational Framework and from this our three areas of initial focus are:

 – Home and small business energy efficiency in a cold climate
 – Application of solar energy for electricity and hot water
 – Sustainable use of firewood

Job Description

The Coordinator will work closely with the Z-NET Uralla Executive to identify community segments for different project activities, find funding sources, develop and submit plans, and implement projects. The Coordinator will assist with the development of Operational and Communications Plans, and promotional events to raise profile and awareness of Z-NET in the local community and broader region. The position will also aid other regions and towns wishing to become a Z-NET locality with any enquiries about Z-NET.

The Coordinator position is a part time contract (14-16 hours a week @$40-50/hour) for a period of 6-8 months. The successful applicant will need to provide an ABN, and have their own car, laptop and phone. Agreed expenses will be reimbursed. The position is supported by a grant from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. A continuing role for a Coordinator after this period will be assessed based on need and availability of funds.

Selection Criteria

 Experience working with community groups, including some experience with facilitation
 Project management skills – to design, resource and deliver projects effectively
 Available to participate in some weekend and evening activities
 Excellent communications skills and ability to deliver communication in a range of forms including social media
 Proven ability to work under little direction/supervision.
 A basic understanding of available energy efficiency strategies and tools
 Have access to a car, own laptop and phone

More Details About the Job

The Coordinator will be involved with three main areas listed below:

Support Z-NET Uralla to identify community segments for different project activities, find funding sources, develop and submit plans, and implement projects.
Coordinator Tasks: Research funding programs. Assist in identifying project partners/proponents. Advise on the preparation of funding proposals, and support the roll out of projects.
Advise Z-NET Uralla on development of Operational and Communications Plan.
Coordinator Tasks: Provide updates for social media, distribute emails on project specific updates to community, and provide content for the Z-NET Uralla website.  Assist with response to media enquiries.
Assist with promotional events to raise profile and awareness of Z-NET.
Coordinator tasks: Identify key forums (local, regional and state), organising rosters of volunteers, organise display material and promotional material (web and Facebook content, posters, fliers, banners, T-shirts and stickers), hire of venues and catering for Z-NET events, contact point for other towns and regions to enquire about Z-NET.
