Wood heaters and Firewood

In Autumn, when it starts to get cooler in the evening we start thinking about our wood fires. This is  the time to ensure that your fireplace is in proper working condition.

1. Clean your flue

2. Have the flue and roof checked.

3. Make sure the seals around the doors are working properly.

All this will mean you have a safe fireplace but that you will also be burning the wood you use in the most effective manner.

Once you have the heater in good working order then it is just as important to ensure that you have a good supply of wood.  Keeping it dry ensures it burns the most efficiently. If you get a load of wood that is a bit green you can leave it for next year. Wood moisture meters are a good investment to check if your wood is dry.
